As awesome as the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra still are after more than six months of commercial availability and even after Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max announcement, there's clearly one thing that can make Samsung's latest non-foldable powerhouses even greater.
That's right, a major new software update that's been brewing for around four months and is apparently ready for primetime at long last today... for a small subset of Galaxy S26 series users... in a single market.
Where can you get One UI 9 and how?
For the time being, the stable One UI 9 rollout is reportedly underway only in South Korea. Even worse, the official update can be downloaded over the air and installed on S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra devices exclusively by former beta testers even in Samsung's homeland.

Because of that, the size of the update is rather limited, at just around 550MB, but when these latest Android 17-based software goodies eventually spread to those of you who haven't participated in Samsung's public beta program, that number is likely to go up to 2 or 3 gigabytes.
To check if you're somehow already eligible to leave Android 16 behind (for good), all you need to do is open your handset's Settings menu, hit "Software update", and then "Check for updates." Of course, it's probably a good idea to charge your phone first as close to the 100 percent mark as possible and make sure you have enough free internal storage space to run One UI 9 without a hitch (hopefully).
When will the update go global?
No one can know for sure the answer to that question, but if history is any indication, it shouldn't take more than a couple of days for mostGalaxy S26 series users around the world to be given the chance to install One UI 9 in its stable form.

I also fully expect the first few European countries to join South Korea in a mere matter of hours, while the US is unfortunately generally late to these kinds of parties.

That's especially true for carrier-locked Galaxy devices, which sometimes need weeks to complete their specific testing of major new OS updates, but of course, miracles have happened in the past, so let's hope T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon have worked better and closer together with Samsung than usual this year.
What is One UI 9 all about?
Because I don't have a full and official changelog to share with you for the final Android 17-based update, I'm going to rely on the info confirmed by Samsung when public beta tests began all the way back in May and additional details and features that transpired in the months since then.
Security is one of the key One UI 9 focus areas, with enhanced protection against suspicious apps and potential threats introduced to take better and more aggressive action than ever towards "high-risk apps."

A revised Quick Panel, meanwhile, is probably the biggest cosmetic and functionality change coming to your Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra this fall, allowing you to independently adjust the brightness, sound, and media player widgets while also adding a few new toggles for things like satellite connectivity and motion sickness support.
Then you've got a bunch of very useful Accessibility improvements that include an all-new Text Spotlight feature, adjustable Mouse Key speed, and a combined TalkBack package that aims to deliver a single, cohesive screen-reader experience by merging together the best tools previously offered separately by Samsung and Google.
Knowing Samsung, there might be a few surprises included in the stable One UI 9 update that we haven't previously learned about, but hopefully, no surprise bugs or glitches will pop up to mess with the company's already delayed rollout schedule.
