iOS 27 leak basically confirms the whole iPhone 18 lineup for the first time

The latest iOS 27 beta mentions six unreleased iPhone models.

Even if everyone knows that the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone are launching next month, Apple hasn’t officially mentioned any of the phones. However, in the latest iOS 27 beta release, the company finally references all of its upcoming phones.

iOS 27 beta 5 all but confirms Apple’s iPhone plans

Apple is working on six new smartphones, which will launch in the near future. While the company has never officially mentioned any of them, hidden code inside the latest iOS 27 beta has references for all models.

Files related to the battery drivers of the iPhone and its Battery Intelligence features were found in the iOS 27 beta 5 for developers, which was released on Monday. The files, unearthed by Macworld, mentioned existing iPhone models, as well as the following six devices:

  • V62 — iPhone Air 2
  • V63 — iPhone 18 Pro
  • V64 — iPhone 18 Pro Max
  • V67 — iPhone 18
  • V68 — iPhone Ultra
  • V69 — iPhone 18e

The files refer only to the codenames of the phones, but the corresponding models have been revealed in earlier leaks, including several reports from Apple insider Mark Gurman. This is the first time any of the iPhone 18 models is explicitly mentioned in iOS 27 code.

Only half of those are coming next month

While the iOS 27 code doesn’t clarify any of the specs of the upcoming phones, it once again refers to Apple’s first foldable as “iPhone Ultra.” The foldable is expected to launch next month, alongside the Pro models.

The rest of the lineup, including the base iPhone 18 and the sequel to the iPhone Air, is expected to launch next spring. This will be the first time Apple separates the premiere of its regular model from the Pro versions.

Another detail that’s not part of the iOS 27 code is the rumored price increase for the iPhone 18 Pro models, which could stop people from upgrading. Users on Reddit are already ruminating on whether an upgrade would be worth the $200-$300 price increase. Some of them have already chosen to stay with an iPhone 17 Pro, while others are putting a price limit and will wait to see whether the new model will fit in it.

The software could be more exciting than the hardware

While I’m glad we’re getting confirmation about the upcoming hardware, I feel like Apple will be more focused on the software. iOS 27 will bring Siri AI to everyone, and this could make many people with older phones finally upgrade, just to get a taste of it.
