In only a few weeks the Galaxy Z Fold 8 turned into one of the most successful foldable smartphones ever made, mostly thanks to its wider form factor. However, the great run may be coming to an end as owners of the device are reporting a bizarre issue with its internal display.
What’s making this situation a little worrisome is that more users are reporting the same problem. Unfortunately, Samsung is still to address it, which could be a mistake.
Users report a potential issue with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 internal display
A few days ago, we told you that Galaxy Z Fold 8 owners have reported a disturbing issue with the internal display of their devices. Initially, the reports were limited to a few people on Samsung’s EU Community, but since then they’ve expanded.
Several users on Reddit have joined with their own comments, and most recently, Korean leaker yeux1122 (translated source) also reported the same problem. They all say that the corners of the foldable display on their devices have noticeably more give than the rest of the display.
The reports say that the display sinks much more when pressed in the corners than in other parts, making it feel like there isn’t anything to support it from below. Leaker yeux1122 said in a post that the issue appears more often on the upper right side of the display, though some users report it in all four corners.

One thing that Samsung really wanted to focus on during the premiere of the Z Fold 8 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra was the new Flex Titanium display. The new technology is engineered to increase its durability, make it more stiff, and minimize the crease. Thanks to it, the display feels much more sturdy and similar to the ones on normal slab phones.
My colleague Victor experienced this first-hand, writing in our in-depth review of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 that he was impressed with the feeling and the performance of its internal display. He said it had much less give, and it truly felt sturdier and similar to what he called “a real phone.” He never reported any issues with the display of the unit he tested.
However, I would also guess that he didn’t look for it. The issue is only present in the extreme edges of the display, which means there could be a logical explanation for it. That would mean we’re talking about something different from a serious defect.

One redditor suggested this could happen because of pads in the corners of the display, which are used instead of glue, making it more of a feature than a problem. This opinion was based on screenshots from a JerryRigEverything teardown video, which makes it rather questionable.
Then there’s the lack of explanation on why only some devices experience the extra give in the corners. Multiple users have reported online that the displays on their devices feel as stiff and sturdy in the corners as in other parts.

All this doesn’t change the fact that the videos with bending displays look worrisome, but it is also a signal that the issue isn’t widespread. There are only a handful of reports about it, and many users say they can’t reproduce it on their units. This could mean the problem is limited to a specific batch of units.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra uses the same foldable display technology, but there aren’t any reports about it experiencing the same bending, further suggesting this is something isolated. Considering how popular the Z Fold 8 turned out to be, it’s hardly surprising that some owners are facing what could be a limited production defect.
Samsung should address the problem
What feels off here is that Samsung hasn’t addressed the issue, nor has it confirmed this is something normal for the phone. I guess everyone who’s seeing their phone bending like this would like to know if this affects the IP48-rated water resistance and large particle protection of their device.
Even if we accept these reports are only a few isolated cases, Samsung should address them as quickly as possible and explain what caused the bending displays in the first place. I wouldn’t worry too much about the overall build quality of the Z Fold 8, but considering the $1,899 starting price, it’s only natural for potential customers to be extra careful.
