Samsung Wave Y: bada 2.0 for the masses
The Samsung Wave Y, the last and most affordable of the three waves that splashed the cell phone industry is officially here, with bada 2.0 showing off on a 3.2-inch HVGA LCD screen. Spec-wise, it’s similar to its older brother, the Samsung Wave M, as it packs an equally powerful 832MHz CPU and 150MB of internal memory extendible via a microSD card of up to 32GB.
The Samsung Wave Y however has cut some corners to be the most affordable in the trio and those are mostly in the photographic department. The basic 2-megapixel fixed-focus camera recording HVGA videos at 30fps on the handset is a significant downgrade from the 5-megapixel auto-focus shooters on the Samsung Wave 3 and Wave M. The phone also gets rid of the front-facing snapper.
The Wave Y is the thickest of the bada 2.0 trio and measures at 0.48 inches (12.3mm), but weighs only 3.6 ounces (102 grams). Those measurements fit in a beautifully designed metallic body. It will also come with a full connectivity package including Wi-Fi b/g/n, USB 2.0, Bluetooth and A-GPS. On the software side, it will also include the newest addition to Samsung’s portfolio - the free messaging service ChatON.
Add to that, NFC support and if the South Korean phone maker hits the right price, this might be a lucrative option for the savvy shopper. In any case, an exact release date and pricing are hopefully to be announced at IFA kicking off in a couple of days, so stay tuned.
