Latest Pixel security update lists 110 flaws including one you need to have patched now

If you get the update on a compatible Pixel device, make sure to install it ASAP.

Google has released a very important security update that patches a zero-day flaw on Pixel handsets that has been actively exploited in what has been called "targeted attacks." Google released a statement that indicates how serious the vulnerability is. The wholly owned Alphabet subsidiary said, "All supported Google devices will receive an update to the 2026-09-05 patch level. We encourage all customers to accept these updates to their devices."

Why a zero-day attack is so dangerous

A zero-day attack is a flaw or vulnerability that has been exploited before the developers have had an opportunity to patch it. The flaw in question was assigned the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) number of CVE-2026-58704. This flaw deals with a possible permission bypass due to a logic error in the code.

User interaction is not required for the flaw to be exploited

Google says that exploiting this vulnerability could lead to a "possible permission bypass due to a logic error in the code." Even more frightening, user interaction is not required for the attacker to exploit the flaw.

The monthly Pixel security update included 110 patches

The vulnerability comes from "improper authorization and protection mechanism failure weaknesses affecting the Modem subcomponent," according to Bleeping Computer. The Pixel monthly update bulletin includes 110 security issues made up of 12 remote code execution flaws, and 89 privilege escalation vulnerabilities that have been rated critical or high severity. Keep in mind that only one of the flaws was a zero-day flaw.

The update also includes a large number of bug fixes and functional updates including the following:

Apps

Fix to exterminate a bug that caused the Google app to crash under certain conditions. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for an issue that resulted in the crashing of certain gaming apps when these apps were opened. This fix was sent to all Pixel 10 series devices.

Bluetooth

Fix for an issue that under certain conditions, prevented users from activating Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. This fix was sent to all Pixel 10 series devices.

Camera

Fix for a camera stability issue that led the camera system to crash in certain conditions. This fix was sent to the Pixel Tablet.

Display & Graphics

Fix for an issue that causes Pixel devices to heat up while game performance lags, and framerates appear choppy during graphics-intensive tasks. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.

Framework

Fix for a system crash that could occur when apps are installed, uninstalled, or updated. This fix was sent to all Pixel 10 series devices.
Fix for an issue where slow database operations related to Android System Intelligence could cause the device to become unresponsive. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for an issue where enabling the magnification shortcut could cause quick swipes to scroll in the opposite direction. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for an issue where, after restarting the device, home screen widgets could disappear. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.

System

Fix for an issue that could cause on-device intelligence features to stop working when force dark mode is enabled. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.

Telephony

Fix for an issue that under certain conditions, prevented certain devices from connecting to mobile networks or led to unexpected service interruptions. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.

User Interface

Fix for an issue where media player controls lacked surface animations. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for a crash that could occur when connecting or disconnecting an external display. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for a system crash that could occur when tapping a folder on the taskbar in Overview mode. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for an issue that could prevent notifications from being swiped away. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for an issue where notifications were partially cut off on the lock screen. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for an issue where the 'Shape' live effect for wallpapers failed to properly separate the subject from the background. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for an issue where the empty notification shade message did not immediately update to the correct language after changing the device's system language. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix for an issue that causes text to overlap in notifications under certain conditions. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.
Fix to improve performance and reduce lag (jank) when opening the Internet panel from the quick settings shade. This fix was sent to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 10a.

How to install the update on your compatible Pixel device

To install the update, go to Settings > System > Software updates > System update. If the update card comes up, follow the directions.
