HTC Shift is a UMPC phone that can replace your laptop

HTC announced the Shift and it does what the Advantage X7500 was supposed to – it is a UMPC phone running on Windows Vista and is so powerful that can easily replace your laptop. Being a UMPC, it means this device runs on standard operating system (Windows Vista) and performs just like a regular computer or laptop.

 It has form factor similar to the one of the Kaiser and looks like a tablet when closed, but sliding QWERTY keyboard can be opened and the display put at an angle, to get a laptop-like experience.

Running on Windows Vista, this beast has 7-inch touch screen and 30GB hard drive for storage. As it is a phone, it is quad-band GSM/EDGE with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA which means it will use high-speed 3G GSM data in all countries that have one.

Jason Chen from Gizmodo has tried the Shift and says it’s fairly light but still solid, with responsive touchscreen and comfortable keyboard. He says he is ready to leave his laptop and use the Shift instead.

The HTC Shift is planned for third quarter of the year. Expect out hands-on experience with it from CTIA 2007.
