Curved LG G Flex to cost almost as much as an iPhone 5S 64GB in the UK

Before making its way to the US (where AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are getting ready to sell it later this quarter), the LG G Flex will be launched in other markets around the world. Its global roll-out began in December, but many major markets have yet to see the handset.

In the UK, the LG G Flex will be available starting February, and today retailers started taking pre-orders for it, confirming that the handset comes with a high price attached. Expansys is asking a hefty $1,135 for an unlocked G Flex (£689.99 in UK currency - almost as much as Apple is charging British customers for its iPhone 5S 64GB). Of course, we shouldn’t expect the G Flex to cost $1,135 when it lands in the US, but around $700 is probably a good guess. Hopefully, carriers will subsidize the smartphone down to under $300.

Carphone Warehouse is another British retailer that’s taking pre-orders for the LG G Flex, but it’s selling it only on monthly plans starting at $60 (£37).

The G Flex is a unique smartphone. Its curved 6-inch P-OLED 720p display allows it to be slightly flexible, while the back case is protected with a self-healing coating. That aside, LG has made sure to include lots of high-end features, like LTE, a 13MP rear camera, 2GB of RAM, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 32GB of internal memory, and a 3,500 mAh battery.
