Apple had a record Holiday quarter selling nearly 48 million iPhones, and what’s interesting is that a huge part of those sales happened in the United States. Apple sold a whopping 17.7 million iPhones in the States in Q4 2012, making for a 34.4% share and beating Samsung which sold 16.8 million and grabbed a 32.3% marketshare for the second place.

And while both Apple and Samsung grew, the third biggest company LG lost sales in Q4 2012, and the same goes for overall smartphone sales of other brands.

Still, if we look at the rivalry between Samsung and Apple, Samsung clearly won the year with 53 million smartphones sold in the United States, more than the 43.7 million iPhones that were sold by Apple.

All of this data comes courtesy of Strategy Analytics saying the growth happened mainly because of huge demand for 4G and 3G smartphones.
