AT&T serving up wireless data for the PlayStation Vita
AT&T has announced it will be the exclusive U.S. wireless carrier for Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Vita release. AT&T will serve up two flavors of its data plans for the new 3G-enabled portable gaming unit – 250 MB for $14.99 and 2GB for $25. While that may seem steep, particularly if you factor in the already high hardware and software costs that are speculated to be the cause of the Vita’s poor sales overseas, the good news is both plans are month-to-month with no contract commitments required.
New Vita owners will be able to use their AT&T connection to access online content, play multiplayer-enabled games, and grant them complimentary access to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots.
“We are looking forward to providing PlayStation Vita users the ability to experience a new era of portable gaming through wireless integration. This introduces an entirely new gaming experience, with access to popular social networking sites, right on the device,” said Glenn Lurie, president of emerging devices at AT&T.
The PlayStation Vita 3G and Wi-Fi only versions are expected to launch in the U.S. on February 22, 2012.
